Team is pleased to announce our participation in Art | 43 | Basel | Art Galleries. We will be located in Hall 2.1, Booth P11. 

At this year’s edition of the world’s pre-eminent art fair, Team will present a curated selection of new work by gallery artists, including two Americans who have been added to the gallery’s roster during the past year. In 1999, video artist Alex Bag had a solo exhibition at American Fine Arts Company focusing on themes of the occult. The  show’s centerpiece was a series of twelve photographs, each one an “interpretation” of one of the signs of the Zodiac. Team, in close collaboration with the artist, has re-printed the images using re-scanned and re-worked files taken from the original negatives. The results are spectacular. Sam Samore will be represented by a stack of three photographs of women’s lips, iconography with which he has been associated for the past twenty years. Samore’s “fictitious” photographs, whose appearance of observed reality is carefully orchestrated, have been exhibited prominently and frequently since the late 80s. 

Two artists closely associated with the gallery’s program (and its history at the Basel fair) will function as foils to the Bag and Samore additions. Slater Bradley (Art Statements, 2001; Art Unlimited, 2002) and Gardar Eide Einarsson (Art Statements, 2006; Art Unlimited, 2011) will present new pieces from serial bodies within their oeuvre. Bradley’s use of gold leaf and gold dust to re-animate cultural artifacts is on display here in several photographs taken of River Phoenix during his last film shoot. A large wall of the stand is dedicated to Einarsson’s practice of appropriating speech bubbles from graphic novels and having them fabricated from steel in stark black and white. 

Lastly, the entire presentation will be anchored by a substantial masterwork by the Greek sculptor Vlassis Caniaris. Made during a period of ex-patriation in Berlin, the 1974 work touches upon themes of stifled movement, ownership, posession, and displacement. 

Team will also present three ambitious projects within the Art Unlimited section of the fair: Brice Dellsperger (in collaboration with Air de Paris), Ryan McGinley, and Andreas Schulze (in collaboration with Sprüth Magers).
