Team (gallery, inc.) is pleased to announce a solo show of work by New York-based artist Bradley Kronz. Entitled White Dicks/Skies of America/20th Century Photographs/xxuuuzs.1'n, the exhibition will run from 01 through 29 March 2015. Team (bungalow) in located at 306 Windward Avenue in Venice, CA. Concurrently, our 83 Grand Street and 47 Wooster Street spaces in New York will house solo shows by Jakob Kolding and Suzanne McClelland, respectively.
Bradley Kronz does not limit himself to any single gesture or medium; his cryptic and multifarious works lurk somewhere between sculpture, drawing and collage. An impressively omnivorous scavenger of culture, the artist incorporates all manner of found ephemera – a mirror abandoned by his neighbors, a family photo purchased on eBay, Xeroxed words from a novel – pairing them with conspicuously hand-made mimicries of traditional modes of presentation. A cardstock frame is smudged, splintered and riddled with plainly visible staples and scotch tape. Directly reversing expectations, the artist’s hand is more apparent in the construction of the chassis than in the picture it frames. The dilapidated works are abject – embarrassingly personal and vaguely disturbing, reminiscent of a ransom note or a page from a diary.
Kronz’s practice exploits the human tendency to imbue inanimate objects with personal meaning. At once tender and voyeuristic, sentimental and sinister, the works function simultaneously as scrapbooks and coffins. Like Kurt Schwitters’ collages and Joseph Cornell’s boxed assemblages, the sculptural pieces forge a strange poetry from found objects and detritus; their ethereal fragility evokes the decay and eventual dissolution of our personal memories, as well as the brittleness of cultural history.
28-year old Bradley Kronz currently lives and works in Brooklyn. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Essex Street in New York, High Art in Paris and Off Vendome in Düsseldorf.
This is his first exhibition in Los Angeles. He was previously featured in the group show flats at Team’s 83 Grand Street space.
Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, noon to 6pm. For further information and/or photographs please call 310.339.1945.
