Art Basel Miami Beach - Art Galleries 2013

David Ratcliff, Daniel Turner, Ryan McGinley, Suzanne McClelland, Ross Knight, Stanley Whitney, and Robert Janitz
December 5th – 8th 2013
83 Grand Street

Team Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in the 2013 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. This marks our ninth appearance at the fair. Our presentation will include works created specifically for the show by Robert Janitz, Ross Knight, Suzanne McClelland, Ryan McGinley, David Ratcliff, Daniel Turner and Stanley Whitney. We will be located at booth G08.

Dominating the stand will be a presentation of seven new paintings by David Ratcliff, which will stretch across a wall ten meters wide. The Los Angeles-based artist has produced these works by appropriating and stenciling visuals (predominantly drawings) from a wide variety of media -- zines, newspapers, diagrams, comic strips, historical documents -- and spray-painting the collaged images onto canvases. This dynamic installation will act as an advance for his January/February 2014 exhibition, Klan Paintings, scheduled for our 47 Wooster Street space.

Suzanne McClelland, following on her successful October exhibit at the gallery, will show large paintings that take text as their subject matter, addressing both its formal and semantic qualities. McClelland will be included in the upcoming Whitney Biennial. Ryan McGinley’s vibrant new pictures show models engaging with lush interior spaces -- a significant break from his practice of outdoor road-trip photography. 60-inch square paintings by Stanley Whitney, composed in the artist’s signature style of loosely patterned grids, continue his intensive investigation of color. Two new sculptures by Ross Knight explore the possibilities of unorthodox materials and delicate balancing acts.

In advance of their upcoming debut solo exhibitions at the gallery, we will also provide a focus on the works of Robert Janitz and Daniel Tuner. Janitz has created large abstract paintings that evoke certain kinds of manual labor -- window washing, cleaning, spackling -- as they relate to erasure and negation. The booth’s exterior will feature a burnishing by Daniel Turner, created by gradually marking the abrasive paint surface with industrial bronze wool in situ across a 30-foot-wide expanse. Also on display by Turner are a new series of framed works -- aged polyvinyl chloride films whose subtle effect is achieved through layering and segmentation.
